Looking for the perfect mix of history and mountain landscapes close to Bishkek? This tour offers just that—a journey through time and nature.
We’ll start with a visit to the ancient Burana Tower, a well-preserved 11th-century minaret in the historic city of Balasagun. You’ll have the chance to climb its original brick-and-wood staircase for a panoramic view of the Chüy Valley—an excellent photo opportunity! You’ll also explore the petroglyphs site and a small museum showcasing fascinating artifacts from the region’s nomadic past.
Next, we’ll head into nature with a short drive to the breathtaking Konorchek Canyons. Walk along a 2 km flat alpine trail through a striking natural reserve filled with stunning red rock formations—a photographer’s dream. These canyons are accessible year-round thanks to the area’s dry climate.
After the hike, we’ll stop for a relaxing lunch at a local café famous for its traditional Kyrgyz kattama—a tasty, flaky local bread.
Important Note: The hike to the canyon includes four minor rock ascents ranging from 1 to 3 meters. Please wear sturdy, non-slip shoes and comfortable, athletic clothing.
08:30 – Pickup from Bishkek Meet your guide and start your drive to the ancient city of Balasagun. 09:30 – Explore Burana Tower (1 hour) Visit the iconic 11th-century minaret, climb to the top for panoramic valley views, and explore nearby petroglyphs and a small museum featuring ancient artifacts and nomadic heritage. 10:30 – Depart for Konorchek Canyon Enjoy a scenic drive through mountain valleys (approx. 1 hour). 11:30 – Konorchek Canyon Hike & Tour (3.5 hours) Take a guided hike (2 km flat trail) through the dramatic red rock formations of Konorchek Canyon. Learn about the geology and local legends, and enjoy the surreal landscape that’s accessible year-round. 15:00 – Lunch stop at a local café Taste traditional Kyrgyz cuisine including freshly made kattama, a local favorite. 16:00 – Return to Bishkek Relax on the drive back, reflecting on the history and nature you've experienced (approx. 2 hours). 18:00 – Drop-off in Bishkek End of the tour with unforgettable memories.
